2015 Canada Coaching Staff

Team Northwest continually strives for excellence in providing our players with challenging drills, competition and overall experience. Our passion for excellence is further delivered by the outstanding coaches that have embraced our program. 2015 we continued to demonstrate that passion and were excited to announce the 2015 coaches below! They did an amazing job and look forward to the 2016 season.

 

 2002 Team Tim Newlin~ Coached Davenport University, youth hockey coach. This is Tim’s 3rd year with Team Northwest! Tim has been an instrumental coach in Arizona youth hockey with many championships behind him.
Nick Fuher~ Nick Fuher is a Team Northwest 1981 birth-year alumni. He has been with the program for many years as a player and coach. We welcome Nick back to the program! Nick has been an assistant coach for the Winkler Flyers in the MJHL He played one season with the Flyers in 1998-99, scoring 10 goals and earning 55 points. He received All-Rookie team and second team All-Star honors and was the runner-up for Rookie of the Year and defenseman of the year.
He moved on to the Lincoln Stars in the USHL the following year and went on to play four years for the North Dakota Fighting Sioux. He played three games with the Utah Grizzlies of the American Hockey League before his pro career was shortened due to injury. Nick is now the assistant coach for the Penticton Vees in the BCHL division.
 2003 Team  Michael Hengen~ Michael is coaching the Prince George Cougars in the WHL division. He also played 2 years pro in Germany and has coached the Penticton Vees  in the BCHL for 4 years. Have been in the finals 3 times and won the BCHL league twice and won the RBC National Championship. Played juniors in the WHL for Calgary Hitman and won the Stampede Challenge 4 times as a player and lost in the championship game while coaching Team Northwest.
Bill (Billy) Doherty ~ Billy has been involved with hockey his whole life and has coached for over 35 years. He played for the Quebec Remparts in the QMJHL for the Concordia University Stingers from Montreal Quebec. Doherty is a strong motivator who inspires student athletes to be their best. Over 22 years ago he realized his dream and founded  Banff Hockey Academy in Alberta. We have been honored to have him coach for Team Northwest in the past and again this year! 
2004 Team Marcus Baxter ~ Marcus will be entering his forth season with the Missoula Maulers Jr. Team in the WSHL.  During his time with the team, Marcus has compiled an overall record of 136-55-3 (.709%) and during his tenure has been awarded Coach of the Year twice.   Prior to his time with the Maulers, Marcus spent two seasons coaching Tier 1 Midget hockey in Colorado.  Marcus played Division 1 hockey for the University of Connecticut Huskies in the Atlantic Hockey Association and in his first season with UCONN, his teammates voted him the recipient of the Seventh Player Award.  Before his college career began, Marcus spent two seasons playing Tier 2 junior hockey in the AWHL for the Bozeman Icedogs. In his second season with Bozeman, Marcus and his teammates took home both the regular season and playoff championships and represented the league in the National Championship Tournament.   A native of Pittsburgh, PA Marcus played his youth hockey in numerous cities across North America.  Included along his path, were stops in Calgary Alberta, Chicago, Illinois, Saint John New Brunswick and Vail Colorado, where the team competed twice in the Midget Major AAA National Championship Tournament.  Marcus lives in Missoula year round with his fiance Bridget and their dog Bodie. This will be Marcus’ first year with Team Northwest and are very happy to have him on board!
Bruce Ericsson ~ Bruce has been a long time youth hockey coach level 4, in the state of Arizona for over 15 years. His full time profession is a Dairy Veterinarian established in the early 1980’s out of Chandler, Arizona. Bruce is married to high school sweetheart Dianne and they have 8 children and 1 granddaughter. Bruce and his children have been involved with Team Northwest for many years. 
2005 Team Landon Wilson~ Landon’s passion for hockey, coupled with his extensive NHL and AHL hockey career, provide him with the necessary perspective and experience to create an environment of challenge, success, and achievement offering players the opportunity to excel and reach their hockey potential. Landon’s vision is to create a nationally recognized youth hockey organization with emphasis on player development, organization development, competition, character and discipline, both on and off the ice.
Landon was drafted in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Wilson made his NHL debut with the Stanley Cup winning Colorado Avalanche in the 1995-96 season. Wilson has also played for the Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins, Phoenix Coyotes and Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL.
In addition, Landon was the captain of the Texas Stars that reached the Calder Cup in their first year, won the Calder Cup with the Providence Bruins in 99, and played for Team USA in the World Championship in 01. Landon is currently the hockey director and head coach for the Dallas Hockey Club in the NAPHL. This is Landons first year coaching for Team Northwest and we are extremely happy to have him on board!
Todd Collins ~ Todd is a Minnesota native who is now an elite hockey coach in the state of Arizona. Todd has now instructed and coached for over 26 years, with his expertise being in Power Skating and Stick handling. Todd has also coached hundreds of players that have now moved on to Division 1, Major Junior or the NHL. Since coaching in Arizona he has coached at all levels varying from Mite Novice AAA to Midget AAA and Tier 2 Juniors in the WSHL. In addition, Todd carries his Level 4 Advanced Coaching Certification and from 1999-2012 Todd was a USA Hockey Arizona State Camp Evaluator. Todd has always had an extreme passion and knowledge for the game of hockey. Playing since he was a child, he then introduced the game to both of his sons. Currently, Todd is the Executive Director/GM of Team Northwest AAA hockey in addition to being a scout for the Prince George Cougars in the (WHL), Minot Minotauros (NAHL) and Lincoln Stars (USHL). Todd is currently coaching for the DYHA Midget AAA  hockey team in Tempe, Arizona.

 

 The 2015 Team Northwest program is shaping up to be one of best programs yet!
